“An Unbelievable Story of Rape” is a piece of investigative journalism by T. Christian Miller of ProPublica and Ken Armstrong of The Marshall Project.
It was first published in 2015 and it wasn’t long before the story spread like wildfire across the internet.
The story told the real-life tale of rape victim Marie and other victims that had been assaulted by a serial rapist. Marie had reported her rape but was found to be “lying” about the crime and was charged for wasting police time. Sadly this would not be the first or last instance in which a woman had reported a rape only to be told she was a liar. The story also divulged into the investigation of the rapes, which was lead by Detective Stacy Galbraith.
The full story can be found here. It’s certainly worth reading and the shocking tale is harrowing, to say the least.
Both authors of “An Unbelievable Story of Rape” have also appeared on the BBC to talk about the article and their investigation into chronicling the crimes that took place.
